- Computer Recyclers is situated in the
southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia.
- The organization comprises of volunteer computer
enthusiasts who refurbish and/or repair donated computer hardware and
peripherals.
- Computer equipment donated is normally IBM
compatible 386, 486, early Pentium and Pentium cases and laptops. Apple
Macintosh equipment is accepted as well with gratitude.
- After these computers are repaired and refurbished,
the equipment is installed with a "free" Linux operating system that is
compatible with the individual unit.
- These units are then supplied to those people and
families who cannot afford to pay for this technology.
- By refurbishing and installing the Linux system
upon this obsolete equipment, the units are given another "life".
- The disposal of old and obsolete
computer equipment is an enviromental "headache".
- A majority of this obsolete equipment
ends at the Municipal Rubbish disposal sites where it cannot be included
for land fill because of the materials used in the construction of these
units.
|
- The situation has become problematic and an
enviromental danger for the future of Western Australia.
- So, if you have any old or obsolete computer
equipment that is ready for disposal, no matter the condition of the
unit(s), think about donating it to be refurbished and utilised by the
less fortunate.
- By donating this computer equipment, the
enviromental and local government disposal problems are
eradicated.
